alarm noise when truck is started

i have a 96 f150 that chimes when you start it up for about a minute, it sounds like a seat belt alarm but the belt is buckled and i cant figure out how to shut the damn thing up

To stop it, just unplug the harness connector from the little white thingy mounted slightly to the driver's side(near center of cab) under the dash. On XLT's it is a chime sound, on XL's it is just a buzzer, either way there are no side-effects, it just stops the noise.

Mine does it for about 10 seconds if you start the motor before the belt is buckled.

It probably has nothing to do with the seat belts. Does the airbag light come on in the cluster when you first turn the key on? Read the first line of the chart at the bottom of the caption of this diagram.

If the airbag light doesn't come on, then you don't need to worry about the chime module. Read the caption of that diagram.

Ya, if there's an idiot light on then look into that. My truck has a remote start, and when the motor is running off the control box(ignition physically off) the ABS light is on and the chime sounds when the door is opened. It goes off when the key is switched on, so does the chime.

The chime thing shouldn't be too hard to find. You gotta stick your head under the dash and look up, it's pretty obvious. Near center of cab, slightly to driver's side. White rectangle about 2" by .5" with a bunch of wires going into it. Pull the plug, noise stops.
