89 with fuel problems
ok so my truck is having issues or something , I woke up this morning , (it's cold and raining) went out to start the truck and nothing , just turns over.....
I thought it was the fuel pump (the one on the frame), but before dropping $190 Canadian for the pump I thought I was check things first , I went to the fuel rail and checked for fuel and Zero nothing. lead me to thing again the fuel pump ,So I hooked up a 7V battery used for R/C racing and it turned on . this makes me think now the fuel pump works.
I replaced the Fuel Pump relay But I still can't hear the pump , I can feel and hear the Click on the relay.
I looked at the inertia switch and it wasn't tripped . I know there are a number for Fusible links and the EEC relay .
whats the best way to test for power and at which points ? how can a person test the Inertia switch ,
Am I missing anything in my testing ? if the EEC relay was bad would I be hearing and feeling the Fuel pump relay ? or should I replace that too ?
it's snowing here tonight I guess but I don't have much of a choice I kinda need the truck for work ...which sucks
So I could use all the help a person could share. this is the longest downtime this truck has had in the past two years. I normally catch problems before they happen , this one caught me off gaurd.

Jumper the FP Relay circuit as shown at the bottom of this diagram (ignore the top - yours is different), turn the key to RUN, & check voltage on both sides of the inertia switch, and going to each pump. If you have dual tanks, remember to switch before testing the 2nd tank.

If there's voltage going to the inertia switch, but not coming out, it's bad. If there's voltage going to a pump, but it's not running, it's bad.

hey thanks for the reply , I was hoping you might be around this morning.
ok ran a jumper wire to the frame rail pump ..it works
I DMM the wires at the frame rail had some one turn key on while I was underneath I have no change and no voltage to the pump.
I checked the inertia switch was not tripped. and I have no power getting to it.
back under the hood I have two relays 1 green and one brown.
they both have 4 wires coming out of them.
the green has good voltage coming out of all wires except the brown wire.
Which I believe goes to the inertia switch I changed the other Brown Repay yesterday with no ill effect.
might there be a link some where that might be gone ?
I'll check back in a while I hope you see this and might help me with the results.

wasn't a bad day today , After playing around retesting everything , I then jumped the Fuel pump from the Relay , by passing any Fused links and Inertia .
the pump worked ,.
so I went back to the relay and thought about it for a min , I pulled the relay check the inside of the harness plug for power and It wasn't happening.
so I replaced the harness plug and the Relay at the same time . and sure enough it fired right way.
thank you for the help

thx steve , I'll have to remember that the next time I have problems with it ,
I will say out of all the trucks I have owned , I have had the most problems starting this one , and it's always something wiring ,
I was talking with the last owner of the truck , and he failed to tell me he had the same problem when he had the truck .but 2 1/5 years 5 times not starting I guess thats not too bad. most of that was due to a bad battery.
thanks once again.
