Shocks or Struts?

Hello all i will start by telling you what i got. I have a 1995 Ford f150 Lwb with 157000 miles. here recently i have noticed the truck while sitting still to lean towards the front passenger side as if something is broke or weak. Also recently while driving down the road i notice if i hit a bump or something the front wants to jump/bounce all around as if and cause a very unsteady drive. I have found this puts me in a bind at times when i almost loose control. So i was wondering if anyone has had any experience in this area. Thanks for your help. BJ

I'd say you need shocks, but that won't help with the lean.........that's a spring or ball joint problem.

Shocks are probably a good place to start. While you're under there, check if anything moves. Jack it up and try to maove the wheel- up down, left, right. Put it back down and have someone rock the steering wheel back and forth while you watch the linkage. Tolerances on all this stuff is pretty tight, if you see things moving/jumping around in an unnatural way. That's what needs to be fixed.

Does the steering have excessive "play" in it? Stop the truck with the motor running and turn the wheel. Have a helper watch the front wheels. If one starts turning before the other, there's a loose or nearly broken linkage that should be fixed as soon as possible.
