Fuel System on 86 F150 with EFI 302
Can somebody explain to me how the fuel system works on this vehicle. I have been looking through the factory wiring diagrams for hours and can't seem to wrap my head around it.
Truck config
302 V8 EFI
Dual Tanks
The selector valve on the frame is non-motorized. All the wiring diagrams are show it as motorized. In the wiring diagrams the I can't find where the in tank pumps get power either. From what I can see when you select front or rear from the switch next to the heater is on serves the purpose of the fuel gauge. Are both in tank pumps powered all the time? If not, what switches the pump on and off from front to rear, or vice-versa.
Any help would be helpful, my brain hurts.
Thanks

What manual are you using? Whatever it is, it sounds like crap. Get a Haynes. It explains that system in detail, including the "dual-function reservoir" (the unpowered tank-switching valve).
The frame pump is always powered. The dash switch changes the in-tank pumps on one set of contacts, and the gauge senders on the other contacts. The pressure from the in-tank pumps is what operates the reservoir's valve. A user named Sixlitre on FSB has done a writeup on how to disassemble, clean, & repair the reservoir, so do some searching over there if you need to.

The diagrams I have are the ford dealer wiring diagrams I purchased from ebay. I have one haynes truck manual for the F-series but its for 80-96 I will pick the up manuals you listed. Thanks for the info. The way you described it is what I envisioned, but the dealer wiring diagrams show only a powered selector valve.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
