Post INFO ( Oil Pan / Motor Mounts )

Well this site and several members ( especially PW ) have really helped me so I thought that I would pass this one on after my most recent "adventure".

Have been chasing several problems of late and figured out my squeaking ( that was driving me crazy) was actually the L motor mount was completely shot.

Called around found them at O'Rielly. Cool. About $30.00 each. Would have loved to go factory parts but sorry I really am a poor working class guy and the dealer wanted between $45 - $70 each. Enough whining.

I get them off fine. And go to put them back on. The R side doesn't want line up, imagine that since it's SOOO easy to get to. Decide to mount up the L side first to see if it helps. All bolted up except stud mount into truck.

THE PROBLEM STARTS HERE.

Nut will not screw on. Seems to want to cross thread. Take it all back off and after two trips to the parts stores ( NAPA ) as well I "learn" that the L is SAE 1/2 while the R is METRIC 12MM. NICE!

SO if you are changing your motor mounts on your 4.9 ( not sure but I think the mouts are the same 2WD or 4WD but check) MAKE SURE you take your stud nuts ( no pun intended ) with you to the store or make them give you the SAE nut if the threads on the mounts are not the same. The guy at NAPA ( CHRIS - Duluth, GA ) ROCKED . After going back out and trying the nut today when I went to them at lunch I came back into the store and we figured everything out. He even willingly took his mounts back ( even said they purchase theirs from Anchor ) and GAVE ME ( for free ) the washers and nuts for the mounts I already had.

I was pretty pissed but calmer since I figured out what I had a hunch was up after looking at everything. Now I went the extra mile and called Anchor and talked to one of their product guys that said " the drawing I have shows it both ways. Must have come from Ford that way as well. " I said I could see that as a possiblity although at 6:30pm last night I wasn't the semi-happy talkative guy I was today ( imagine that ). So I gave them a suggestion. SPEND THE .02 cents and put the DAMN NUT on all these things! JEESH. He was like..."Yeah I see your point." DUH!

Oh and I titled this Oil Pan because if your gonna do your pan you should do your motor mounts as well. It will give you some extra room and you won't be doing it later ( like me )

Hmmmm...anything else I learned.... ...16mm for the block bolts....18mm for the stud nuts.....make sure you put thread locker on them when you bolt it all back up....broke everything loose with 1/2 drive ( when I had room ) removed and reinstalled with 3/8 drive.....take your time and breath ALOT... I'll follow up with any insight regarding the R side.... I have a feeling re-assembly might prove fun.....

To make it easier to realign the mounts to the frame, loosen the trans mount so you can slide the whole mess front-to-rear. You'll still be fighting the exhaust hangers, but they're made to move.
