Question Piece of random metal...???

Okay, I've got a kind of wierd question. Alright, the other day, since it was fairly nice out, i was crawling around underneath my truck.. and decided to pull the rubber cap off of the clutch inspection hole(M5OD).. and theres a chunk of metal just sitting there. And i have no idea what it went to, and neither do any of my buddies. All that i've found out, is that its made of pretty soft metal, and looks like 'a cap of some sort'... It hasnt affected anything, and the truck still drives the same. But it looks like about one side of it was sheared off, and its pretty scratched up.. I know a pic would help, but i dont have a camera, but I'll see what i can do.. Thanks for any ideas

-Dave

Edit: Now that i look at it again, i wouldnt say that half of it has been sheared off, but i think it was made like that. And its kind of nipple shaped, looking at it from above, it has 5 ribs, going down the sides, and looking at it from the bottom, it has greenish-blue stuff on the inside, where it looks like it had been pushed on to something. Its hard to explain, but i'm trying my best...

Yeah, you've gotta get a photo uploaded. I can't make anything from that description.

And add some info to your profile or signature. Like engine size, 2/4WD, odometer, mods...

Is it soft like the aluminum case of the transmission, or softer, like lead? It looks like a shattered part of the trans casting, but I can't imagine the trans still working with something like that knocked off.

Looks to me like it is the broken off end of a starter cap. Is there a bushing inside the nose? A copper looking sleeve bushing?

Hey, bluejay, i think you may have hit the nail on the head.. i dont know why i didnt think of that... A few months ago i had the starter blow out on me.. and now that i think of the new one, that is what the front of it looks like. I'm pretty sure that that's gotta be what it is, since the tranny still works fine, and hasnt acted up any... Well, i think the problem's solved.. i'm just gonna go look and make sure there's no more pieces left rattling around in there.. Thanks
