Show off your pre-97 Ford trucks
so i havent been on the site for 4 months, but i have been a busy boy. i finished my swap in my 91. it is now a fully funtioning bored, stroked, cammed, carburated machine. i removed the funky candycane shaped plenum that the 5.0s had in the 90's and here what i got now. the body work has started also and i plan to have it in paint before summer i still have intermitent fuel delivery issues but its a work in progress
Lookin good, the only advice I have is to ditch that "cold" air intake, which in all reality is a warm air intake. It's proven to loose mileage, and loose power. The best set up you can do is to have a K&N drop in with stock air box including an I6(300)\460 intake tube to the box. Insulate it with insulation tape\wrap and you have the best proven way to get more power and MPG. Nice to see another low mileage! My 89 just rolled over to 71,000

Thanks all. One of the very first "mods" I made to the truck was the drop in K&N filter. Ran it that way for years. I didn't do a lot of quantitative testing but I'm pretty sure the cold air package gave me a bit better power and throttle response. It may have even helped mileage some but if it did it probably went from 10.4 to 10.5 mpg
Is there some test that was done that disproves K&N's claims for power and efficiency improvement?

There is also a link in my sig that leads to a thread where numerous people have had better gains in both power and MPG.
Edit: Sorry, it's a link to a single post, here's the entire thread:

GREAT looking trucks everyone! My favourite year of the F-150 was from 1992 to 1996 i love the body style. It's great to see these old trucks in such great shape. My truck is on page 23. I bought it off summit800.
Not sure I see the same thing in this study. What I saw indicated the most Hp increase wirth the complete K&M cold air system, albeit not the best MPG. Would have been interesting to see an insulated runner set up with the K&N cold air.. I also would keep in mind this was one test, one vehicle and a 460ci to boot. Certainly not enough data there to make me go back to my stock set up - although it does make me interested in trying to insulate my runners ..
Guess I'll post the results of the study. The motor has no impact on the intake temperature, the intake does. The point of a cold air intake is it make the incoming air colder. So the colder the air, the better it performs. The K&N sucks the air in from the engine bay, where the air is the hotest.
Here's the results:

Shows that the only thing thats better with the FIPK is the HP, literally everything else is much worse. nearly 25% worse. You get better accleration, 25% better MPGS, etc. you can see it in the above picture.
Not to mention all the people in the this thread giving their comments that it does increase your Torque and MPGs. Do what you want though, it's your truck's potential.

Very clean, sharp, nice looking truck!
My 95 project is not even worthy of pictures yet since it has been in the air more then on the ground since I got it. But when I get her back on the ground I would love to get some photos posted of her!
