So today I wrecked my truck. Somehow my brake lights/turn signals/ ABS have managed to stop working and today I slid smack into the back of an Explorer right in the middle of town. Anyways, I was lookin at my parts book for replacement parts to fix it back up and noticed that the front "guts" of a 4WD and 2WD are alot alike. Now i've been looking around at some of the suspension diagrams and such and am getting ready for an intial pricing. I was hoping you guys could maybe lend a hand by recommending some things such as front axles, diff's, etc. I would like to keep it normal, and economical. I don't need a front LSD or stuff like that. I've just been an advocate for 2WD trucks and never paid much attention to 4WD components. I would also like to try and keep things as "manual" as possible. I'de prefer to avoid as much of the electronics as possible, even though that's how alot were from the factory. I would just rather have it that way, unless that path is rediculously expensive or something. Thanks everyone! (BTW the truck is a 93 f-150, 4.9, auto)
A stock Dana 44 Twin Traction Beam will bolt right on from a 80-96 F-150/Bronco. Best to have a good donor truck to snag all the parts. You'll also need a 4x4 setup E4OD tranny to bolt a transfer case to.

had a friend do it to an 82 f150 in auto class 2 yrs ago, but it was a beater and the donor truck was free. it also wasnt electronicly controlled.
i agree, if you want 4wheel drive just sell it and buy a new truck, it'll save you money and tonz of headaches. waste of time.

Ya, its just the truck has sentimental value to it. I was offered 3.4k to total it, 2.7k if I want the truck back. Just curious, is the 1980 6.9l diesel any good? I found one that is 4x4, but I was REALLY lookin for a turbo diesel. Just curious.
The 6.9L IDI diesel was used from '84 to '87. Can be built up nice with a turbo and fuel mods. www.oilburners.net has all the IDI info.
3.4K is a nice check and twice what I would have expected.

i too understand a sentimental truck i have one, and you couldnt give me 34K for it much less 3.4K. so i hear ya there.. so find a decent 4x4 with decent sheet metal and start swapping parts!! remember its your truck, do it how you want it (mine was hammered in the side 3 yrs ago the insurance gave us under 3K to keep it and put over 10K in it to fix it)
