coffee can like filter?

1993 f150 302, on the passenger side behind the battery there is a black can (kind of looks like a coffee can) with two small plastic hoses coming out, a black one and a red one. Is this part of the emissions system on these trucks? The red hose broke, (plastic was old and brittle) does the truck need this to run or how easily is it replaced?

That's the vacuum reservoir...local parts store has vacuum line, splice in to the break. You could have issues with the A/C and/or defrost if you don't fix it...

Yup, ya would have vacuum problems with a leak. Some rubber hose should fix ya up fer a buck or two.

Haha. broke the same one. It should trigger the check engine light. I never noticed any driveability issues. But then again I dont have working AC.

I fixed it with some very slim shrink tubing. You know the plastic stuff you heat up and it shrinks? Just put the 2 ends in some of that and heat it up.

Or.. heck buy some new tubing. doesn't have to be the brittle plastic kind. rubber should work as well. You can get it at any auto/hardware store.
