5.0 Mods?

I have a 92 Flareside with the 5.0L and the E40D. Are there any easy modifications that can be made to this engine? Are there any tuner chips for a truck this old? I'd rather not crack the cases and change out the cam or anything just yet. I'm just looking for small improvements. Thanks.

Instead of dumping money on tricks that aren't really worth it, stick to GOOD regular maintenance. You need to be especially careful with that transmission if it has NOT been rebuilt yet. There were MANY problems with pre-'95 E4ODs, and they're expensive 8!+(#3$ when they go out.

For mods that are actually worth the money, read the RESULTS pages of Project MPG.

I have a 94 5.0 and I put a K@N fipk and throttle body spacer on mine at the same time and it made a unbelivable difference.

A set of 1.7:1 roller rockers is probably the most bang for the buck with a simple bolt on. Problem is that you're probably going to want to change the valve springs as well. If you have an air compressor it can be done with the heads in place, but if you drop a valve, you have to pull the head.

Also, if you are going to change the cam down the road, you may not want the higher ratio rockers with the bigger cam.

Where did you get your throttle body spacer? Thanks.

i had my 4 speed auto rebuilt at 107k miles (tranny) and it was followed by leaks and now at 116k miles i have it in shop AGAIN for a big leak.. either the rear seal or the pump.. gaskets etc.. i hate this crappy tranny place im going to they never get it right.. they are trying to band-aid the tranny so it outlasts the warranty for next 4 months.. then I have to spend another 500 to get it worth it..

Plenty of stuff you can do with the older 5.0s without digging into the internals.

Intake
Exhaust
Ignition upgrades
underdrive pulleys
chips
tuning tweaks

Troyer can tell you if they are still burning chips for the older trucks. You can find his number in the chips section. He is Superchips_Distributor (or something really close to that).

check out the mustang forums. 302's will put out over 350 at the crank with bolt ons. might not be ideal for towing though.
