question about 85 fuel injection...

is there something special about it? everywhere i have ever seen parts for a fuel injected truck the year only goes back to 87. i am assuming that it is just because fuel injection wasnt standard until then. am i right?

There are several minor differences. What parts do you need?

'87 was the first year for EFI. That's why the parts only go to then. Before that I believe they were TBI (throttle body injection). But what do I know. I've been wrong before, I've seen me do it.

No, sorry, the 302 was multiport EFI in '85, the 300/351 in '87, and the 460 in '88.

There were '87 351W carbs. I think it went EFI in '88, also. But yes, the 5.0L was optionally EFI in '85 (if not '84).

Parts shouldn't be a problem.

I think the differences in what is claimed and what is reality is that often California emissions trucks are released earlier than the rest of the country, and often have the newer stuff. The same happened with mass air trucks, and OBDII systems.

Now that I think about it DaveG has/had that '87 with the 351HO four barrel, but I have robbed parts from an '87 351 F-150 with EFI, so musta been in the middle there somewhere.

The '87 headers won't have an oxygen sensor bung for your HEGO (if that's where yours goes - can't remember now), but any welding shop can add one if you need it.

Injectors are the same up to '96 (at least) if they're the same COLOR as yours (probably orange/yellow).
