1993 F150 sputtering problems / engine light @45k
Ill try to put as much detail as I can , from what I know about this truck.
We had a f150 at work that was purchased with a new warehouse , the truck had sat for probably around 6-7 years . I needed a daily since my street / strip was being worked on . Anyway I replaced some hoses flushed the radiator , put a new fuel pump in the truck ( tank #2 is still full of varnish im sure ) .. New exhaust and other little things .. it ran ok besides a few problems , like it would randomly rev high and hold for a few seconds ( guessing the TB was just sticky or something I dunno , since this truck has no RPM gauge its hard to tell but was probably spiking around 2900-3100 ) That problem eventually went away . Alough there are small problems I still have ( revs up and down while cold and brake system will lock at a single touch of the brake pedal .. Gas gauge was reading "kind of ok" but now just sits at E .. Water temp sensor only shows 1/4 , guessing its covered in brown goodness )
Anyway here are my current problems , Alough the plugs and wires are oem which I need to change . The engine check light came on around 45k .. The truck was still running fine , this light comes on after about 15 seconds the car is turned on . ( has been going on for about 3 days )
Yesterday after about a 30 mile drive the problems started , The engine check light would go off followed by a "rev" of the engine then kick back on in about 10 seconds .. The truck slowly began to sputter .. and When I mean sputter I am talking about a bucking bronco jerking back and forth wondering if something in the drive train is about to snap , with hollow "pings" but no back fire coming from the engine when id try to make it keep going . I started it again and it was fine but the engine check light is there .
Alough I would say plug wires I would assume they would constantly break up and not buck me around as much . The battery was off the tray and the negative was slightly loose .. Alough I know how many problems ground can cause even after putting it back in place I feel as if it has todo with the check engine light.
Another small question is if you are looking at the engine in the top left corner where i am guessing the "a/c" blower is , there is what appears to be a small diaphram with a swing arm that pushes in and out of it . The "plastic tube" going to it has become brittle and broken . AC / heat works fine as long as i turn it on once the car is warmed up.
Thanks guys and sorry for making this "EHH HELP" my first post . Id take it to get the code checked but from what I remember 93 f150's use OBD 1 when discount , pep boys or any common place really only does code checks for OBD 2 ecu's now.
truck is a manual . and it is a engine problem not drive train .

Very straight forward to check the OBD1 codes yourself with a short piece of wire. Full details on how to run a self test are at...
