Side Mirror Rattles...

So.. I have my truck and I have this REALLY annoying rattling noise when im driving on my left door.. I replaced both the strikers on my 2 doors thinking that was it.. when really its my stupid side mirror.. it bounces up and down.. I got my torque screwdrives and tryed to tighten it up and it was all the way tightened not being the problem but it still goes up and down... whats the awnser to this? replacing the mirror or can i get a 5$ part to fix it? Im thinking its the spring thing in it that pushes against the door that is just worn out.. or something.. any advice?

It's the arm of the mirror base that passes thru the door & bolts to the inner skin. It's super-thin, & they commonly break off, allowing the mirror to bounce on the outer door skin. Let it go long enough, & it'll crack the skin. You can see more photos of how to work on the mirror by clicking my signature link & looking in the '94 Mirrors album.

The mirror base CAN be replaced if you don't mind totally dismantling the mirror, but it's hard to find just that replacement part. You'll probably end up buying an aftermarket mirror off eBay for ~$40 & swapping the whole thing.
