converting EFI to Carb

I have an 88 f150 with a 302 EFI. I am ripping the EFI out due to it is to much trouble in the woods and having to many problems with it. I was wondering if I could use the same distributor that has the TFI module on it oe if I have to buy a self contained unit. I have heard some people say that you can buy the brain from a carb motor and wire the distributor into the brain. Is this possible? And if so can anyone tell me how to do this?

Thanks

Don't do it. A carb is even worse. If you HAVE to change, put in a newer EFI, but it's not THAT hard to fix what you have. Some quality time with a haynes manual & a DMM are usually all it takes.

Often that ignition module is the biggest single problem - Ford got sued over it, and lost. Read Ch.5 Sec.5 on p.5-5. Another common problem & its fix are described here.

I tried changing the TFI module, tried a new distributor, new cap, new rotor. No go. I did a complete tune up too. The computer is fried from getting wet and the truck is strictly a woods and mud truck. I don't want the problems that the electronics and water bring up. The truck is already converted except for my distributor issue. I just don't want to spend $300 on a self contained unit if I can use the distibutor that I just bought.
