93 5.0 either tranny or engine problems

hello new to the board and not for sure where to post this.
ok i'll try to explain the problem i'm having as well as i can. while driving i shifts very smooth. if going up a hill and you try to accelerate the truck does not want to downshift, the only way to downshift is to almost floor the accelerator. by the way it is an auto tranny.

You need to give us a LOT more info.

What's the TRANS code from the door sticker? How old is the fluid/filter? How many miles on the trans? When did you first notice the problem? Does it happen when it's cold/hot/low-speed/hi-speed/loaded/unloaded...? Does the truck have a tachometer? Who does the maintenance/repairs? Do you have any tools? Do you have a Haynes manual (PN 36058 w/light blue cover)? Have you ever pulled the codes?

Remember: GIGO. The more relevant info you give us, the more likely we are to help.

sorry for the lack of information the tranny is the e4od. it is sending no codes. the tranny is the original so it has 103,000. it does it both loaded and unloaded, hot or cold. the fluid is most likely the original. it has no tach and i do the repairs.
i was reading on here that it might be a egr, tps or a iac. any thoughts on the engine or the tranny.

Well, you know what Job #1 is, right? Unfortunately, it probably won't do much good, so start saving your nickels for a reman.

sorry major corections the tranny is the aod. also the fluid was changed on a regular schedule. i did a tune up and the motor runs better but it feels like it is almost missing, along with what i said earlier. should i try an egr, iac or tps or still look at the tranny being the source of my problems

I think this is the second time I've seen you mention this, and it got me to thinking; it's been quite a while since I referred to any of my older Haynes books, but I didn't remember the Bronco/F150 book being light blue, so I looked. Sure enough, my Haynes Bronco/F150 book (#36058, covering 1980-1996) is red. When was the change made, and what is the significance of the light blue version?

If by "try" you mean "blindly swap in an attempt to solve fix something", NO. If you can't diagnose a problem & find the root cause, pay someone who CAN. It'll be faster & cheaper.

Buy & read the Haynes manual.

The blue one is the latest edition. It contains MUCH more info that's specific to '92-96 trucks.

Interesting. I usually just use the factory manuals these days, but it's good to know they updated the Haynes book. Thanks for the info!

I have all the CDs, but only the '96-99 archive DVD. Do you have any of the later DVDs? I need all from '03-08. I have the '08 TSB/FSA disk, but I think it only covers service info for 2 models of vehicle.

No, I'm afraid I'm old fashioned, and have the physical manuals, but my coverage only goes to 2000. I tried a CD once, and it just didn't feel right not having the pages to flip through. I'm sure that sounds dumb, but it's true. lol.

Strange, my Haynes manual has the photo of the truck, is red, but covers the 80-96 trucks like the blue one in the photo.

Bids will start at $200!

Mine looks just like the one on the left, except it covers 1980-1996. How many pages are there in your copy?

The red cover was used for several editions; '91, '96, & a few older. Then a second (& probably FINAL) '96 edition was published using the blue cover, and it had more EFI info than the red '96, which is why I always recommend the blue for '92-96 owners. '87-91 owners can use any of them. '80-86 owners should use the oldest red edition they can find since some of the older info was deleted from the later editions.
