distributer location

any one else ever get water in thier distributer when they go through a car wash. with the 5.0 or 5.8?

then for a few minutes the engine sputters.

my freind with the 5.0 went through a big puddle one time and got his full of water and we had to wipe it dry before it would fire up. as most of you know its located on the fornt of the block.

just wondering if anyone else has had this happen?

I've never had it happen to me but i here that it is very common. On my offroader i glue the cap on with 3M weather strip adhesive (the yellow gooey stuff) It keeps it sealed up tight but it is still able to be pulled apart fairly easily if i do get water in through the vent (sometimes happens with water up to the door handles).

Due to the infinite wisdom of Ford, they put the distributor right up front where it get's wet rather easily, I've even stalled out in a seriously heavy rain going down the highway. They're also prone to leakage.

Silicone spray is a Ford truck owners best friend. Just spray the snot out of everything all the way back to the coil on the firewall.

Silicones cheaper, and there's just something not quite right about buying a Ford product to fix a Ford design error.

I don't think it's an "error" - I just think they left off a part: the rubber distributor cover that they put on most CARS. It's an excellent investment, but again, you'd be using a Ford part. I have one on mine, and a few spares. They're easy to find in JYs.
