Ok... now what?

Need some help on breaking into my truck. Here's the deal. The the other day I go to local homecenter for a few items. Was going to load them into my 88's bed. Things were going great... unlocked my camper shell, lifted the upper door, grabbed the tailgate handle, pulled... and POP!! Next thing I know, my tailgate handle is hanging crooked from just the right-hand pivot point, the left side has dropped... and the gate itself is still firmly latched. How to I get into the fershlugginer thing from the inside to A) unlatch the gate and B) replace the entire mechanism? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

And on an entirely different topic: how much of a PITA is it to change a steering box?

88?

I cannot seem to remember, but some of the older F-series tailgates had panels on the inside that were held on by screws. Remove those, and you can get to the hardware inside.

Again, I cannot remember if 88 had this. :o

Yeah they all have panels that unbolt from the inside, once you get that off you will be able to yank on the rod and get it open and see what broke or came apart.
