fresh air pump removal

Wow, I'm really starting to be a pest with stupid questions aren't I? I was wondering what the fresh air pump does besides pumping air into the cat for emissions. I was thinking since I got rid of the cat, mabey I don't need it and it'll free up some horsepower and most of all clear out some room to get at my plugs better. Also, if I were to do that, and go with an underdrive pully kit, where and how do I go about getting a new belt that will fit.

If your cats are gone you dont need it, although some states require that it be there to pass annual inspection (but you would need to have the cats too). I don't remember on that engine if you can just take it off and use a shorter belt or if you need an idler pulley to go in its place. Ive heard of people taking them apart and pulling the guts out, just leaving the housing and the front bearings there. Any good parts guy at the parts store can get you a shorter belt (the length of the belt is part of the part#) just tell him how much shorter you want it to be.

If you buy an underdrive kit from Troyer, they'll sell you the correct size belt for the truck.

You can remove it, but I'll find the thread with the vacuum lines you need to plug or else you'll be makin a problem.

I always took mine off.

I live in a place that does not require a visual inspection.
