oil leaking from drain bolt....

I have a 1993 5.0 f150. It appears to be leaking oil from the drain bolt. Is there an easy way to fix this, a new drain bolt maybe? or a washer that is supposed to be there but has been lost over the years? anyone else have this problem and what do you do with it?

New bolt for cheap from any parts store next oil change. The crush washer does wear out.

There should be a plastic washer under the drain bolt head. After a while they cruch down and almost fuse to the bolt head. Cut the old one off and replace it. In an ideal world, the **** types will say you should probably replace it at every oil change. Every couple of years should be plenty. Any parts store should have them in stock. If you buy enough crap from them, they may even throw you one for free

Well, call me ****. Drain plug gaskets (washers) are commonly made of plastic, but they are also available in copper, which I prefer, and yes, they should be replaced with every oil change. Like most gaskets, once they are 'crushed', they shouldn't be reused because they won't seal as well. This often leads to a very slight leak, which someone usually tries to correct by tightening the plug even more. Do it enough, and you'll need an oversized replacement plug. The gaskets are very inexpensive, and really should be replaced every time.
