Running Hot when towing

I have a 93 E150 with a 351 and tow package. It tows great but after I had a new radiator put in it runs hotter when I am towing my box trailer. I normally run at the M in NORMAL and will run there on cool days. On hot days (I live in Florida) now will run on at the L going 70 mph. I have to drive 60 to keep it on the M. The invoice says it is a heavy duty radiator, the mfgr indicates it is the same part as an E350. I checked with the on-line radiator shops and they also only have one size. I think the core is too small. I changed the thermostat, with no affect. Any ideas? Does anyone know a mfgr who sells true heavy duty thicker core radiators?

Thanks
Bill

What coolant/water mix ratio did you fill the new radiator with?

Was the system properly bled to eliminate air pockets. Griffin and many other companies make heavy duty 4 core radiators but you shouldn't need one for what you are doing. And they are universal fit which means some fab may be required to make it work in your truck unless you have one custom made.

You should be running just as cool as you were before unless you have air in the system, the wrong coolant/water mix, or a defective/clogged radiator (extremely unlikely). Why was the radiator replaced? Maybe you have another problem with your cooling system?

Thanks for the response.
I had it replaced because it had a small leak on the center of the top pan, internal corrosion because it liked fine on the out side.
With a vertical radiator I thought running the system was self bleeding. How do I bleed the system?

I just run the truck for a while with the radiator cap off, any air bubbles out to the top. If you have been driving it for a while most of the air may have worked its way out through the overflow and bled it self anyway.
