How do you replace column shifter in 96 F250?

I just bought a used 1996 F250 w/ a 4 speed auto. Today while trying move a trailer around, the overdrive button assembly cracked at the seam and is now dangling by the wires. Has anyone replaced the overdrive switch assembly or do I need to replace the whole column shifter?

Hi,

I have a '95 F150. I had to replace my OD button last year. It was a very inexpensive part from the Ford dealership, and took about 2 minutes to replace it. So if yours is like mine is - a button on the end of the shifter - you'll have no problems!

Good Luck!

Thanks NCC. Are you talking about the button on the end of the plastic assembly, or the whole plastic assembly (the ribbed part all the way to the metal shifter)? I actually took some two part epoxy and glued it back together, but I'd still like to replace it sometime 'cause it'll probably break again.

I only had to replace the plastic tip, not the ribbed part. As I recall, it was in 2 pieces. But it was fairly easy.

Thanks,
