95 4.9L No Spark at the coil.
95 4.9L No Spark at the coil.
After replacing the engine with a new rebuild, it started up just fine.
The timing wasnt right but it idled pretty good. I had to take a few weeks off from working on it so it sat there for a while.
Last weekend I started again. I knew I had to re-stab the the distributor because the timing was way off even though it would idle good before and I couldn't find the timing mark. So I pulled the dist. got it back in and thats when my new problem began.
No spark from the coil. Its hot Im pissed, so I just replaced the coil. No good, Its hotter and I'm still pissed so I replaced the ignition module. Still no spark.
Now I'm starting to get to the area that I don't know much about. After studying things for a while I figured out the the spark goes through the distributor, routed to the coil, and then sent back to the distributor cap. Okay so I'm slow, but thats where I'm at.
I pulled the distributor and I noticed this electrical component. I call it a stator, in another thread someone referred to it as a Hall effect switch. Anyway it had corrosion all over the metal part. I cleaned it up with a finger nail file and put everything back together. It started right up, ran for a while 5 mins maybe.
It died because I turn the distributor too far trying to set the timing. After that no spark again.
I wonder if I should try to repair the distributor, get one from salvage or buy one online. (LMC truck)
