Flareside and Styleside

Okay, so my folks have a 1987 F-150 they might sell me to work on (might make a seperate topic about that later.) Anyway, when I'm searching for truck mods and accessories a few words keep coming up: flareside and styleside. What is the difference and how can I tell if my folk's truck is one or the other (or neither)?

Thanks,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,

This is a 1987 Styleside.....

and this is a 1993 Flareside....

The cab forward is the same.
The bed is different, The Flareside has bulges, (or flares) over the wheelwells.

And if you have an 87 flare, it is very truck. 87 was the only year out of the 87-91 body style to have an available flareside, and not many were made.

Found it by using the other common term of stepside

Here is 13MWZ's 84. 80-86 were common but only has a regular cab.

And here is a super rare 87. I've only ever seen two online and they were both red. At first we thought it was swapped on from an 80-86, but it does have the 87+ wheel arch. Ford was just prolly using up any remaining 86 stock and just used the new wheel arch style on it.
