96 F150

Hey everyone, I'm new to this forum and 4x4s also. I just purchased a 96 F150. It only has 51,000 miles on it and I decided I would like to invest in it and do some work. I have 31''x10.5'' tires right now and was thinking about going to 33'' plus a 3'' body lift. would i need to put new brakes on if i upgraded tires? thanks

Howdy and welcome!

33's will stuff in fine with no lift. You can look at my 84 for how it looks. However you need to space out the front bumper with some washers for clearance with your body style.

Stock brakes handle 33's no problem.

will that affect my transmission at all, since they are heavier tires?

No, but we should know what tranny you have...

Looking at the trans code on the door jam sticker.

M = M5OD-R2 (stick)
E = E4OD (heavy duty auto)
U = 4R70w (light duty auto)

Welcome! Awesome deal, finding a '96 with so few miles! Mine has been running 33" tires most of its life, and it has over 180k miles on it. I only had very minor clearance issues with the bumber when I changed brands - apparently the BFG KM'm are slightly larger than 33". What motor and gear ratio do you have?

I have a 92 F-150 4x4 with a leveling kit and 33s and I love how it sits. I would highly reccomend going this route rather than doing a body lift.
