Project 94 f250 gas
Project 94 f250 gas
I bought a new to me 94 f250 with a 351w, 35 bfgs, 6in lift (unknown), Flex-a-lite fans, and a custom stereo system.
The color of this truck used to be teal but currently its primered up. How much will a paintjob run me, it needs to be wetsanded. Im thinking hunter green? Do they make any diamond plate bumpers for this truck?
Next I need better performance an mpg. This truck does not have a mass air flow meter, I see they make kits with them. Are they worth the money? It does have an exaust gas sensor. Im thinking about adding pulleys, how much of a power gain and mpg will I notice? I do a good bit of towing so I cannot sacrifice this area in the performance. What in the line of tuners will I have to use? I do not want to change the air intake due to the vunerability of water getting in there. I would rather change the intake tubes, it has a drop in K&N. What do yall think of going from a 195 deg thermostat to a 160?
I need general info on this truck and some ideas for making it all around nicer and more enjoyable.
Oh yeah and I need a link to a general lee horn. I have a cb on the way.

Aight, now your were we can focus and get down to it.
351 + automatic + big tires + aerodynamics of a brick = your current gas milage. No way around it other than driving easy.
Save the money on underdrive pullies and buy gas. They are for high revving mustang motors.
An MAF swap will only be worth your money if you add a supercharger where the speed density setup runs into trouble.
You really want a general lee horn?
Well it is your truck so I believe JC whitney sells them. When supermotors gets back up and running I have a simple circuit I designed so you can switch back and forth between the stock and added horns with relay controls.
CB's are a easy but tricky thing to get right so post up when you get it so we can make sure you don't blow the transmitter.
Your bumper is a tough call. The grill part is like an inch too short. I'd ditch that and just do a loop of tube. The bottom part appears (depending on how well the thing was built) ready for a good winch. Lots have been having good luck with the big harbor freight winch if that interests ya.

My truck currently does not have a mass air flow sensor. I was figuring a better mixture would not hurt at all. I realize that this truck is heavy and the auto tranny is hurting me, but nothing I can currently do about that. Unless they make a shift kit, or I get something to firm my tranny up. My stock manifolds have tons of rust on them and when money is not short I plan to replace them. What are some good headers? Will I gain much power and torque? I figure I will do the whole exaust all in one buy. How much will that run me? Im looking to gain much needed power, when I say mpg Im more or less curious because I realize im not going to get any better than 13 if Im lucky. Oh yeah and the reason why I seem to be stuck on pulleys because everybody talks about them so highly.
Your engine has a Speed Density setup. Perfectly fine and works efficiently on a non blown EFI engine. Because of your tranny, you would have to find specifically a 95 351 with a E4OD to snag the computer and wiring from if you wanted to convert to MAF. Five speed trucks wanting to convert have more options for computers as the tranny control is moot.
I think you would learn a lot about your engines EFI operation if you read through the great info on www.fordfuelinjection.com

The speed density system is fine for a stock motor that isn't supercharged. But that would be nice though

So basically my speed density system is making good power? How do superchargers and offroad mudding go together?
When money is at good supply I plan to:
Port and polish intake and heads
Headers
hi flow cat
flowmaster
and a retune somehow
How much power can I expect to gain? Are these good choices? I would add air intake but I have nothing to protect an open filter against splash and water.

Sorry for that last post, I mushed two thoughts together...
Superchargers are great for everything except your wallet! hehe
Good common wish list. Add to it with the biggest tranny cooler you can find. The E4OD is a tough ole bird if kept cool and is a real expensive mother if you cook it.
Some other common things to start off with as well...
Fuel filter (need a fuel line tool as well)
Plugs, wires, cap, and rotar (I like motorcraft parts here)
Run a bottle of fuel injector cleaner in the next fill up as well.

Has new plugs caps and wires. Why do I need to replace the injectors and such the engine only has 95k miles on the rebuilt. If I currently had the money I would replace those but she aint broke so Im not fixing those.
Oh okay, Ill give that a shot. I need to find a machine shop to do some porting and polishing what will that run me? I have a few jobs lined up that will pay for the paintjob and the insurance $1400! Then whats a good set of headers and high flow cats for cheap. Currently it is running straight pipe off the cats and its as loud and my grandmas crownvic which is silent. I guess after inspection I should give them a cut or two.
In two years I would like to have a mostly built motor. Headers down to mufflers would require more air so I would port and polish. I will not change the air intake because the aftermarket ones leave the filters wide open and thats no good. From there I might get a custom tuned module. Im trying to figure out what I want, so when its all payed for I will have an awesome rig.
