Was 4x4, shortbed, and dual fuel tanks ever an option?
Does anyone know if any shortbed 4x4 trucks came with dual fuel tanks? I've got a 199 F150 W/302 that is 2WD. I want to make it into a 4x4 shortbed and keep the dual fuel tanks, but it doesn't seem as though there is going to be enough room between the T-case and the rear axle to bring them a foot and a half closer together. If anyone has a shortbed dual fuel tank 4x4, would you care to take a picture of the underside? If I can't keep the dual tanks, I'll probably put a 33 gallon bronco tank were the rear tank is now, hell, I may do that anyway, I just really like having the dual fuel tanks.
I don't think so. I remember seeing a 94 with only one tank in the truck you described.
Howdy and welcome to posting on the site! What year do you have? What axle are you gonna go with up front?

Wow, didn't realise it was my first post. I used to have a bronco, and still browse the FSB forums, but the tranny crapped out on me and I needed to buy something else. Since I ride/race dirtbikes, a truck with a bed made more sence to haul the bikes with. I got a 91 F150 2WD 302/E4OD w/ 50000mi on it for $700. The 302 had a dead cyl, but since the BKO had a good 302 in it, I swapped it into the F150. I'm going to use the TTB front end, which is a total bolt-on bolt-off deal. I have thought long and hard about SAS, but for what I use this truck for, It won't be needed. I don't wheel too much, mostly fast off road stuff, gravel roads, field roads, and some jumping and I feel that the TTB will do this better than a SFA. In the end, I'll have a ZF 302 4x4 F-150. The only parts I'm currently missing are the clutch and the ZF. I've got all the other parts accumulated because that was what I was going to do with the BKO.
I don't really need a long bed and don't like the slower handling responce that it gives me. I've got the fab skills to chop the frame, section it, and put it back together, but it dosen't seem as though the side fuel tank wan't to cooperate with me. I really don't see any reason why I couldn't put a BKO 33 gallon tank where the current rear tank is (above the spare tire). It would eliminate my spare tire, but I can always put one in the bed.
I probably won't be able to keep the side tank, at least not at the legnth that it is now. Just eye-ballin' it, it looks like the tank would be sticking over the rear axle if I shortened the frame/bed to the SWB legnth. Especially considering I'll be putting on a T-case that's going to be in the way of the tank.
Besides, just before the tranny took a crap on me, I bought a new 33-gallon plastic tank and built a 1/4" plate steel skid for it, too.
