1995 F-150

Ok, so I'm looking to get a truck to haul parts around and occasionally my 92 mustang. It will probably be a daily driver also. I found a 1995 F-150 with 4.9 I6, E4OD, 3.08 rear gears and its 4x4. The body is in good shape but there is some rust on the underside, the A/C works and it seems to run good. It has 122,000 miles on it. They want $6000. Is that to much?

If I ever want to sell my '95 F150 XLT (5 L w/3:08 gears; 227,000 miles; body in good shape - no rust), if I were to get anywhere near $6000, I would be thrilled! In other words, that may be on the high side for the F150 you described. Have you looked at the book value?

Good Luck!

Hmm, I guess your right. KBB puts it at about $5000 but that is in excellent condition and this truck is not in excellent condition.

You do NOT want 3.08 gears in a tow vehicle. Look for one with 3.55s

Ok, I ended up getting a different F150 for less but it is very similar. So now the question is what do I need to do so I can tow 5000 pounds every once in a while? I figure 1800 for the open trailer and 3200 for the mustang. Since it’s a 4x4 I will have to pay to upgrade both sets of gears so how much is that going to cost me? I will also need to pick up a hitch and have it installed on the frame. Will I need to do anything else? Like upgrade the suspension?

It all depends on the engine/trans/gears combo. If your "new" truck has an auto tranny and a 4.9L engine, and is a regular cab, you'd want 3.55's. Your Max GCWR would be 10,000 lbs, and your trailer could be as much as 5600 lbs.
