Red face Dana this, dana that....

I hate to sound like a idiot, but what is a Dana 50 TTB, Dana 44, a 60, etc

I know they are axels, but what makes one better than the other? How do I know what I have?

The Dana axle company assigns model numbers to all their axles. As the number goes up, the strengh and size of the axle does too. Dana 44, 50, 60, 61, 70, 80, ect all are simply solid axles that came stock with certain applications and have there specific specifications.

A special case for Ford is the Twin Traction Beam (TTB). Kind of a solid axle/independant suspension bastard child. The 50 TTB came in early 80's 350s and 80's-97 F250s. The 44 TTB came in 80-96 F150s and Broncos. There was a 30something TTB for the older Ranger/Explorer.

Hope that helps.

The Rangers/Bronco IIs of the TTB era were equipped with the Dana 28 TTB front axle.
