I installed a JET chip in my truck about 8 years ago, and loved it. After 3 years, a cold start problem started acting up, and I traced it back to the chip. I pulled the chip, and that was that. A year or so later, I discovered that JET has a lifetime warranty on their chips, and I decided to get mine replaced. Because I had other things going on, and because it took me a while to find the receipt, I didn't get around to sending the old chip back in for replacement until about a month and a half ago. I received the new chip a couple weeks ago, and finally got around to putting it in last week.

Those that have known me since I first joined here 7 years ago might remember how highly I spoke of the JET chip. Well, it's even better than I remembered. I have read for years where people put them down, and say crap about them, but in my truck, with the mods I've done, the improvement the chip makes is absolutely amazing!

When I first removed it several years ago, I tried adjusting the timing to try and make up for it, but nothing came close. When I went for a test drive the other day, I ended up driving around for 30 minutes, just because it was so much fun. A funny thought kept crossing my mind, too; "wanna race?". lol.

I'm not making any guarantees for any other applications, but in my truck, with what I've done to it, that chip is like magic! The truck is more responsive, pulls harder, longer, and is so much more fun to drive.

What does it do for ya and what applications does it work with? The only tuners I've researched are for the Powerstroke.

Well, first off, it's not an adjustable tuner, like the ones for the diesels, it's just a chip that plugs in at the access door on the back of the ECM. Here is the FAQ page on the JET website, which should answer a lot of your questions.

When I bought my original chip, I first tried to buy one through the guy here that sells chips, but back then, they didn't make one for my truck, and he said I would have to send him my ECM for a few days so they could make one. I couldn't afford the downtime, and discovered that JET did make a chip for my truck, so I went ahead and bought it.


It's kinda hard to describe what it does. The truck just has more power all the time, from off-idle to WOT. It feels like my truck lost 1000 pounds overnight.

People who have criticized JET chips have said that all they do is advance the timing a few degrees at WOT, but I can guarantee you mine does more than that. It also eliminates the ECM limiters (rpm, speed). It reminds me a lot of what it feels like to go from a 2 barrel carb to a 4 barrel carb on a V8.

FWIW, the design of the chip has changed since I originally bought mine. The replacement they sent me was designed completely different from the one I sent them, but they both had the same part number.
