Question 94 Explorer Transmission Question?

I have asked this question on other boards and I could never get a straight answer nor could I find anyone that has ever done It. All I have been told Is that It Is too much trouble.
I have a 94 Explorer with the A4LD auto transmission. It Is on It's last leg and I have to change It out. My Question Is can I go from a auto to a manual?
I have done It on a few cars before but never a 4x4 truck.
I am sure It can be done but what I need to know Is what would I have to change other than the transmission?
I know I would have to add a clutch petal, clutch cable, shifter, clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, maybe change the drive shaft. Anything eles I am missing? Can I get your guys opinion on this?

well, my first inclination is to ask why you don't just get one with a manual. That is lot of time, effort and $$ to spend on a truck that is both as common as this one is and is 13 years old-- not old enough to be 'classic' and a restoration candidate, not new enough to ever hope of getting your $$ back out of it if you decide to sell it. However...I'm sure you have heard that before and that line of thought isn't helping you.

SO, to be more positive, I'm sure it's possible and I'm sure someone somewhere has done it and/or could write you a book on it. It's just a matter of finding them- and there are a couple of people on here who just may be one of them. Unfortunately for you, I am not one of them. But I still have a couple of questions:

-do you know what kind of a new transmission you want? That will greatly affect what might have to be added/fabricated.
-what engine do you have in there?
-what do you use the truck for? Towing, hauling, mudding, daily commuter?
-Are you at all budget-minded? (some transmissions cost waaay more than others)

As for the transmission. I was going to use the same manual transmission that goes Into a 94 Explorer. I am not sure which one It Is. I have a 4.0L V6. I just had to have the engine replaced right after I bought It and now the transmission Is on It's last leg. I just drive It on a daily basis and I would like to offroad. Yes I am budget-minded.

I'd find a wrecked/rotted explorer of the same vintage with a stick and buy it. That way you have all the parts you need plus you could ebay any usable parts. Also I'm not sure it means anything but I've never seen an explorer with a stick that wasn't a 2 door

M5OD-R1 Not to be confused with the -R2 found in the half ton trucks.

Also it is a hydro setup, not a cable.
