check engine light

as i said earlier my check engine light comes on about 10 min after i start driving my truck so i brought it to auto zone and the guy said that my truck does not have a plug to use his machine on. i really doubt that is true but does anyone know if a 1994 f150 xlt single cab with a 302 v8 has a diagnostic plug in thing so the guy at autozone can find out what code comes up and if it does can you tell me where it is located?
thanks

That is an OBD 1 and autozone only has the equipment to scan OBD 2 cars 96 and newer. There is a diagnostic port on your truck it is in the engine bay drivers side about halfway up the fenderwell I believe.

There is a way to read the codes using a paper clip and counting 'blinks' on the check engine light.

My local Autozone told me the same thing and when i dug futher they said their plugin for my truck was broken. So i went to the one in the next town over and although they did run it it didnt do much good. However i lucked up one day my wife came in from one of her Walmart shopping sprees and said they had a computer on clearance for my truck she had bought. So me thinking she had done bought a voltage meter or something it was indeed a code scanner. It calls for all ford lincoln and mercury vehicles up to 1996 and i tell ya what that was the best 20 dollars i've ever spent. And thing is it's not a cheap one either i seen the same one in Oreily Auto Parts for 89 dollars. But the point of the story although you may be able to get someone to do it for you, if you plan to keep the truck for a while fork out the cash you wont regret it....
