EGR Check

Hey, while im waiting for my fuel pressure tester to arrive i was doing alittle investigating on the truck my question is Unplugging the connector to the egr or removing the vacum line from it, should it make a difference in the way the truck runs? The reason i'm asking is when i unplugged one and then the other it had no affect either way. But it did seem to idle just slighly higher and run just a tad bit better with my finger over the line.....

Thanks

Daniel

The EGR valve shouldn't have any effect on performance or idle because it's only used during part throttle. If it does make a difference, then it's not closing all the way, and needs to be replaced. Eliminating it is a bad idea because it helps keep cylinder head temps down.

Sorry, I'm just used to people trying to find an excuse to remove it.

Try pulling it off and cleaning it up before replacing it. There may be a small bit of carbon that is preventing the valve from closing all the way.
