Temp Sensors & Factory Tow Package Wiring

Been away for few months - no trouble with truck to speak of, other than stupid check engine light came back intermittently and then constantly (without noticable effect on operation) - finally read it out and got the ECT sensor open code (118), grumpy due to having replaced that sensor in the fall, yanked connector, replaced connector, light started fickering in and out, light went on in my head, checked sensor resistance hot and cold (sensor not open) got a can of contact cleaner, sprayed the connections, light staying out since then.

The dashboard temp gauge is also out - sensor was replaced while coolant was drained, but wire is either broken or not connected at the dash end - "Le Manual de Useless de Chilton" does not admit to this wire even existing, much less where it connects under the dash. I could simply replace it with another wire if I could find it without disassembling half the truck to get at it. The guy who decided to route most of the engine wires inside the arms of the intake manifold is not somone I'm happy with right now.

Another set of wires "Le Manual..." fails to admit to is the set at the bottom of the dashboard in a square connector, and I suddenly realised that this might be the factory tow package wiring (colors look right; one is electric brake blue) - the odd part being that the brake controller (and remains of the tow-harness connector which was sheared off by previous owner backing into something) were wired in a fashion that utterly ignored this set of wires. Since I'm about to fix them, any tips on locating the end that should be at the back of the truck would be appreciated (since I'm pretty sure that the 3-wire round extension cord for the brake/power/ground and 4-wire flat plug-in device in the taillight harness are not the factory tow wiring). Description of the factory tow package in the owners manual is too vague to include such details.

Mind you, it's a not much of a tow vehicle (GTW is limited to 3500 lbs with the manual tranny), but I'd like to have it set up right (missed out on a potential deal as I was trying to figure out how I'd get said deal home legally, where a working tow setup would have done it).
