Question another ? about a/c compressor clutch...

compressor clutch is going out...1996 150 with 4.9...can clutch assembly be replaced without pulling compressor....also ford4ever said I could get a belt for a non a/c 1995 truck and bypass compressor until time motivation etc allows me to fix...if this is the case do I need to pull the compressor to fit new belt.....or would new belt have to be rerouted Im sure the 1996 and 1995 belt with a/c is the same part...was wondering what if anything was in place of the compressor on the non a/c model...or will non a/c belt work just by simply rerouting it away from compressor....Thanks .....

I removed the compressor on the one i put the shorter belt on, i don't think it will clear. There was no idler pulley in it's place so the shorter belt should go right on. It may be possible to replace the clutch with the compressor on the truck but i have never tried it, it certainly wouldn't be much fun, i have always removed them. It is easy to take the compressor off but you have to get the a/c recharged afterwards.
