clutch help... opinions wanted

OK, i have a 90 f-150. i think the clutch is out, but i want to make shure its the clutch. ok, its not having any problems going into gear. but when you take off, the gear slips real bad, and you move verry slow at a high RPM.

i want to make shure its the clutch before i go and buy one.

thanks

I haven't owned a manual transmission in several years but from the ones which i did own that had a bad clutch they did exactly what you described so unless one of theese guys can tell you something different that could be wrong id bet on the bad clutch.

Good Luck

If the RPM's go up and the car doesn't speed up sounds like the clutch is toast. You can test by going up a hill and see if the RPM's increase but speed does not. Another way to test is put the emergency brake on while drive and see if the clutch slips.

Typically clutchs will slip more the more they burn. So when the clutch is cold ( first start up) the clutch might not slip as much.

when i did mine itwas like 94$ at local part store. also you may want to consider a aftermarket clutch, i got a centerforce II and love it, just something to think about.

What difference did you notice with the centerforce? my 4 speed is tough to shift, i'm guessing its the slave, but like adrianspeeder said you might as well change both while your down there thats why i'm asking

Runnin a Centerforce I in the '92 Bronc. Good feel and grabby. Fun to drive back home on the back roads and in 4x4. Not too much fun when I had it down here in Philly though while the '88 was back home gettin the TTB rebuilt.

I agree.. Dont replace with a factory clutch. For the same cost or just a bit more you can get a performance clutch that will last for many more years.

I only have experience with centerforce in the drag racing world. But they did work well for that.

4x4 or not? 2wds are pretty easy to do, 4x4s just have more labor.
