Some 302 problems

whats going on everyone? ok well i'm having a few problems with my truck(87 302 4sp.), a few days ago while i was driving with the heater off but still blowing hot air from the motor and i began smelling something, it kind of smelled like anti-freeze to me b/c of earlier problems with freeze out plugs on a 300. so i didn't think too much of it because it wasn't a hard up burnt anitfreeze smell. Well yesterday for some reason i popped my hood and looked at the resovior and it was bone dry. the truck was still warm so i didn't pop the cap off to the rad, i checked the oil, and it was a little under a quart low. The smell is getting a little stronger but like i said it's not a straight up burnt anti freeze smell, has anyone had any problems like this, or could maybe help me out with this so i can fix it before it gets worse? Sorry for the long post but i wanted to try and explain the best i could...thanks everyone

Luckly the cores in these trucks are very easy to replace. About 30 minutes time. I've done about 3 mustang Cores and your talking 4-7 hours for those. Make sure you buy a real Ford core also. Don't buy from from an autoparts store.

I think mine ran around 75-100 for my 87 truck from Ford.

Yea there not bad at all i bought mine from Autozone for around 30 dollars and it was suprising how much better quality it was vs the oem alumium one and then when i got my 94 and the core went bad i went and use the warranty on the one from my 92 (which my wife totaled) to get a new one but on both vehicles they lasted until the trucks were gone but compared to the sunfire my wife used to own changing this core was a snap

Cool, i like the responses and i'm feeling a littlle more at ease about this..It's gotta be the core, i can't get the windows to defrost sometimes and over the weekend it ate like a half of jug,and get a bad smell from the vents. i'll keep ya's posted.
