86 F150 W/T6 Trans... I think?

My '86 F150 300 with a T6 Trans that has been rebuilt 4 years ago and only about 10,000 mi has developed a problem. In the AM I back out of the driveway, put it in drive and go to the first stop sign and stop. When I start to go it won't go... feels like it's in neutral. After a few slight throttle pumps it eases into gear and then works fine the rest of the day.
The obvious is low fluid level and that's ok. When the trans was rebuild the previous owner specified a shift kit be installed and it had an aggressive shift up until a year ago and suddenly that went away and started shifting sweet. I'm not getting any obvious slipping and I take this truck off highway and occasionally pull a utility trailer so if it was slipping I would notice that right away.
I just want to get a feeling of what is wrong before I pull the valve body down, look at it and scratch my head.
Thanks for any help.

Unless it was swapped in, it's not a T6 (what is that anyway, a mustang trans?)

Use this page to help ya out. Either gonna be a AOD or C6.
