Suggestions on draining or siphoning gas tanks

Any ideas on how to drain the tanks or siphon the old gas out of an 87 F150 with dual tanks?

I tried a 1/2" diameter hose and the manual method, but could not get any to draw. I really really hate trying to siphon by mouth.

This truck has been parked for almost 8 months and I'll have it back together soon and want to make sure I don't contaminate the fuel system with the deteriorated gasoline.
thanks!

As a first response to my first post here...well let me just say I'm not very appreciative of your comment. Obviously I don't have the money you do to own a 2005 King Ranch. I do all my work myself, on weekends, after working my 52 hour week (thats 2 jobs and 6 days a week) and keeping up with my house and family.

When was the last time you pulled and rebuilt an engine? Oh thats right with the money you have you pay someone to get their hands dirty.

If you don't have anything helpful to add ....

Howdy!

I don't believe you got what he ment. IE: there is more focus on stealing gas lately.

Easy now.

Unhook the fuel line at the filter and turn the key on. Might take awhile though with having to keep cycling the key on/off.

Again, Sorry Dog. Look at the big picture here...in light of what is going on with gas prices, etc, would you not be a little skeptical of a post like yours? A guy shows up, out of the blue, and wants to know how to siphon gas?

I have never pulled and rebuilt an engine. And never will. But I know friends who have...and they have all drained the tanks prior to working or right after lifting their cars.

And you really should keep your uninformed opinions about my "money" to yourself.

Anyhow, welcome..

Mr Scott, if you want to insinuate that I may have criminal intent, you open yourself up to negative insinuations regarding yourself.

Its nice to know that around here new guys are considered possible criminals until they've proven themselves. If I was a criminal, I'd just punch or drill a hole in the bottom of a tank and get all the gas I wanted to easy.

I started out this project just thinking I had to replace the oil pump and could do it in a few weeks, well, with an 87 model that has not been touched, but has been off roaded quite a bit, once I got in there everything is subject to being redone.

I think I'll just go post elsewhere.

BTW Adrianspeeder, thanks for the suggestion.

Ok everybody calm down.

Leopard, we all just got off on the wrong stride. Stick around, as there are lots of good people and info here. Plus I'm a fan of all the older iron (as you can see), and would like to hear more about yours.

What do ya say?

Yea gas prices are really gettin everyones attention now a days rich or poor and their blaming some of it on the hurricane and i can see where it could have affected things but thing is me and my crew are in gulfport ms now and will be for quite a long time and its off from here to New Orleans and gas here is cheaper than back home 2.29 a gallon everywhere and you would think it would be more expensive here than anywhere

What does wont move wheels won't turn have to do with draining the gas tank? You should start a new thread, not bring back a unrelated thread that's been dead for 9 years.
