1981 Ford Rough Idle/Low Spark?

HI Guys

Great forum you got here.

I have a 1981 Ford F-150 with a straight six in it and I am having problems with it turning off on the highway and won't start. Sometimes if I wait a little it will start and somtimes it won't. I put a new ignition control box today and it seemed to have more spark but then a new problem emerged. It started idling bad. I think the turning off bit is fixed but I am not sure since I just installed the ing. box today.

Has anybody encountered this problem and what did you do to remedy it.

Thank You,

JB

Have you did a plug and wire change? Sounds like it could be due to atleast one bad plug wire if its been a while since they were changed it may not hurt to do so whether it fixes it or not....... Good luck and let me know how it goes........

Ahh, '81 that was a good year!

My first thought before the engine module was fuel delivery. Need a new fuel filter or fuel pump? Vacuum leak or kit in carb? Ranger 81 comes from my first new truck a 1981 Ford 150 Ranger Brown with cloth seat and metal roof in cab. Ah and don't forget the dog dish hub caps on white painted wheels. Anywho, good luck. R81
