96 f150 5.0 dies wont restart
I HAVE A 96 F150 WITH A 5.O AUTOMATIC DUAL FUEL TANKS. I REPLACED THE ENGINE WITH A REMAN LONG BLOCK LAST OCT.(THATS ANOTHER STORY) THE ENGINE RAN GREAT I DROVE IT OVER 300 MILES R/T EVERYWEEKEND FOR THE NEXT TWO MONTHS. I MOVED AND WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK ONE DAY AND IT JUST SPUTTERED AND DIED AND WOULD NOT RESTART. I LEFT IT AND WENT BACK TO IT AFTER WORK IT STARTED RIGHT UP. IT RAN FINE FOR 2 MORE WEEKS THEN DID IT AGAIN. I MADE A 160 MILE R/T THE FOLLOWING WEEK WITH NO PROBLEMS. THE NEXT DAY I WENT 3 MILES UP THE ROAD IT DIED AND WOULD NOT RESTART FOR ABOUT 20 MIN. I REPLACED THE COIL THAT DID NOT HELP. I HAVE A 1993 F150 COMPUTER IM GOING TO TRY AND SEE IF THE #S MATCH MINE .. I DOUBT IT WILL WORK. ANY SUGGESTIONS? I REPLACED ALL WIRED PLUGS ROTOR CAP COIL WHEN ENGINE WAS REPLACED. I DO KNOW MY OXYGEN SENSORS ARE BAD.

Mine does the same thing. I get a code 542 (Open in secondary fuel circuit) from the code reader after it has died. When it hasn't died, both KOEO & KOER codes are 111(All is well). Fuel pressure is great! Problem is very intermittent. When I run the multimeter on the components, all checks out. I was getting some odd readings on the fuel pump connector, but it was getting dark and it could have just been me. I will update once I find the problem. Oh yea, it's a 95 f150 with a 5.0(302), single tank, 5spd.

you can do the ecm and see if that helps, i had the same problem except mine would sputter die and then fire up and die shortly after..i had my shop pull the whole distributor and they said that a magnetic ball that goes to the cam was bad and causing this, idk exactly what it is called but they had to rebuild it...but i did the ecm first and it helped..just an idea...i know what your talking about and it really Pisses you off..good luck...post back

Your ICM (formally known as TFI module) should be mounted to the drivers side fender, just below the hinge. Use a hair dryer, set to low, and with the engine at idle, turn on the hair dryer and aim it at the ICM. If the engine hasn't stalled after 5 minutes, the ICM isn't the problem. If it does stall, replace the module.
