4.9l Starter

I need a new starter for my 90' F150 with a 4.9l auto. How much are they, and would I be able to install it my self? Im not really much of a mechanic, but I did install my waterpump and radiator by myself... At advanceautoparts.com they have one for 33.97$ with a 30.00$ core, so it'd be 3.97$ after I take my old one back?

I put a starter in my '86 Ford E-150 and it wasn't bad at all. I'd suggest getting a starter with a lifetime warranty. The first starter I bought was the standard model and didn't last much past the warranty. I bought a lifetime warranty starter from AutoZone and it's been a good starter. Take your old one off first and take it in with you so they can match it exactly. Also check the cable going to the starter, they have a tendency to burn off. In fact, check that before you take it off...I've had those go bad and it acts like a bad starter. And use a BIG amperage battery with it...I use a 1000 cca battery so it spins it over pretty good.
The $30 core charge is in addition to the starter price. If you don't take the old one in with you, they charge you the core charge then you get it back when you return the old starter.
Hope that helps........

If you changed out your water pump and radiator yourself, your starter will be a piece of cake.
