I have a 1994 XL with the I6 (2wd). For some reason, while I am driving the car it starts making the chiming/bell noise. It rings 5 times pauses. It will do the 5 chimes and a pause maybe 4 or 5 times and stop. When this happens, I have been driving for 15-20 minutes.

No warning lights, no check engine.. Nothing.

Anyone else have this problem or no what to do with it?

Also, while I have the attention of some experts....
I am looking to get rid of this truck and get a 4wd with the Super Cab. I have been looking at a few 97-99 trucks with the V*, but I really love my I6. Should I just look for a 96 with 4wd and the I6? There is so much room to work around the engine with the I6... Is the 4.6 anywhere near as reliable as the I6?

Only thing that comes to mind is the key minder. Try wiggling the ignition key and see if the chime stops. If so, remove the cylinder and bend the little tang outward to make better contact with the cylinder. If this helps, keep posting updates and you can get detailed info on any removal procedures.

The later models have a seatbelt minder like that. It isn't constant, but pipes up every few minutes and is very irritating.

 

If you have a bad door switch it can make the door chime come on when your driving. Does the dome light come on? How about the door ajar light on the dash?

I am going to make sure I take a look at the interior down light next time it happens........ I cant think of it ever happening at night, so that might be what is going on.

It is so intermittent, and I do not put many miles on the truck so it may be a while before it happens again.
