Auto trans to Manual
Auto trans to Manual
I got a 96 4x4 Auto, And a smashed 96 2WD 5 Speed, and I would like to put the 5 Speed in my 4X4, is it possible to bolt the transfer case off my 4x4 on to the 2WD manual trans???
Not Quite. The 4X4 and 2X4 versions of the Mazdog tranny have different tailshaft housings (and possibly different tailshafts.) You'd need to source the correct 4X4 parts.
More to the point is the Powertrain Control Module. On automatic trannied trucks, it controls both engine and tranny. Swap to a manual and you'll see lots of error codes and probably some major drivability problems. You'll need to get a manual trans PCM.

Of course you already have the smashed truck with the pcm and wiring harness you need, assuming they have the same engines. Maybe a junkyard will will let you trade the 2wd tranny plus a few bucks for a 4wd trans.

I haven't had a chance to look at the manual trans, just thought there maybe a chance the tail shaft could be taken off the 2wd and the trans case would bolt up, its almost impossible to find a manual trans for my 302 in a junk yard, I have been lookin since last March, and came across this smashed 2wd real cheap, just debating on fixing it to sell or junking it for parts
