propane snorter?

Hi folks,

My wife bought an 86 f150, 5.8 V8 running propane. I always thought propane was pretty economical, though I understand one only gets 80% of the miles one would get from an equal volume of petrol/gas. Here in Alberta, Canada, gas is 80 odd cents a litre, and propane hovers around 42-45. Refilled the truck today after 386 km, and got a whopping bill for 156 litres of propane/$80 Canadian. For Yanks, that about $55 for 240 miles. Is my truck snorting back the 'pane at a ludicrous rate? Experiences, costs, ideas would really help me sort this out!

Regards,

Justin

Sounds like a lot to me, but I don't know crap about propane engines. Sorry, I don't think any one is ignoring your post, just in the same boat as me on propane engines.

The only time I've used propane was in a work car. We could go about 7 hours per fill up. The petrol gas lated about 16 hours. I don't remember how many miles we went only that we had to fill up normally 1 or 2x per shift with the propane and only every other day with the petrol. This was in the early 90's

cheers

Thanks folks, that gives me something to work on.

50% of the economy of gasoline? doesn't sound so good now, as propane isn't half the price, only about 60%.

Cheers,

Justin

I got this info off of the Canadian Office of Energy Efficiency...

Cost Comparison:
Gasoline Versus Propane

Gasoline Costs:
A gasoline vehicle driven 650 000 kilometres would consume 101 500 litres of gasoline.

101 500 litres of gasoline x $0.70 per litre =
$71,050

Propane Costs:
A propane vehicle driven 650 000 kilometres would consume 132 600 litres of propane.

132 600 litres of propane x $0.30 per litre =
$39,780
