First post. Been lurking but now have reason.

Bought an 83. Rough.
Need to know compatibility between years. I've seen some items listed from 80-86 and some lited up to the 96 model. I know some things are specific to some years and once they changed to fuel injection things became different. Those are not items needed. But what about a tailight lens. I really like the smooth ones on the later years.
For instance they hacked up the wiring harness under hood. Still had the ignition box but they had installed a single point distributor. Well now i have to try to decipher. Etc.
For some reason the 80-86 models are rare around here in junkyards. Trucks in general are tough to find.
You would think in Houston.

Again the question. Is there a reference for compatibilty of parts from year to year?

 

Junkyards use a parts interchange manual. They are expensive new but you might beable to find a used one on ebay. For specific parts i'm sure someone here will be able to answer your questions.

The tails off of a 92-96 will pop right on your 83.

I'll just have to snoop and read as much as I can to see what others have done or are doing.

I also have an interest in this subject as I am hoping to keep my '91 looking and running good for many more years.
I am new here by the way, and this is my first post.
My immediate concern is whether the vent window assemblies from a '92-'96 will fit a '91.
