Request info on replacing the rear fuel tank
I just bought a 1994 F150 4x4 and when I switched the fuel tank from front to rear the truck died. I thought maybe it was empty so went and put ten bucks in it and nothing. When I got home parked the truck and noticed gas dripping off the tank strapps. I figure the tank has a hole and the reason the rear tank would not work. So my question is regarding the fuel pump and if it is in the tank or out of it and parts I need to fix this problem.
Thank you for all your imput.

The pump is in the tank and it is a pain in the butt to remove/replace the tank. I had the same problem about a year ago, small hole in the tank next to the straps. The pump replacement is easy once the tank is on the ground. I have heard of some people say pulling the bed off and taking the tank out through the top is easier. It took me about 4 hrs start to finish and $100 for the oem replacement tank.
One thing that can be very time consuming and aggrivating is the fuel line quick disconnects which may not be quick at all. You have to have the right tool and its a snap. You will find other posts talking about this tool if you do a search, there are even pictures of it . The one that works the best has a gold or red anodized finish and is made by performance tool, bought em' at pepboy's for about $6 each. You will need a 5/16" and a 1/4" I believe. Good luck

I removed the rear tank on my 96 within 20 minutes, I didn't really find it was much of a job, of course the lines are a pain in the ***, the fuel pump most likely went bad because if it is not sitting in gas it will dry up and the seals crackm, common occurence on these models for the back tank to leak I guess
What made my removal aggrivating was the lip around the gas tank was bigger than the clearance between the frame rails so it wouldn't drop. I had to bend and cut the flange to get it out. To make it worse the new replacement tank had an even bigger lip than the stock, but I was able to trim it on the ground before installing. Hope yours goes easier than mine.
I recently replaced my senders and now FINALLY have working gauges again. I seriously considered bed removal after my fiasco with leaking fuel....error on my end of not installing the gaskets!
Get a pal to help and should take ya a few hours to R&R a tank at the most. If you get into a bind... post up here or something.
