1996 Ignition Upgrade on a 4.9?

I have been reading the posts about ignition upgrades and the jury is apparently still out on how much of a difference it makes. I have a 1996 F-150 with a 300/6 and the truck has 95000 miles on it. I have put a K&N FIPK kit on it and that is about it for engine modifications. I am looking to Troyer for an electric fan to replace my stock clutch fan and they have an ignition upgrade from Accel that claims to give a few HP increase. Is it worth the $135.00 for the coil, wires, cap, rotor, and plugs, will I see a noticeable performance increase? Let me know what you guys have done to your trucks as far as ignition upgrades and what kind of performance increases you have seen.

Well I installed an MSD 6A ignition and new MSD wires a couple years ago and I noticed the difference. I just installed one in my friend's Pathfinder along with an ACCEL ignition coil. He says he really notices the performance gains. I'm going to get a new coil for mine now, just trying to figure out which I need.

Unless your coil is wearing out, which it may be, you won't notice a difference. However, you will have peace of mind that your ignition system is in good shape. To me, that sounds like a worthwhile investment.

That is kinda what I was thinking, the replacement Accel coil for a TFI is only $50.00 at Advance Auto, the MSD one is $5.00 cheaper than that, does anyone have a preference for either one?

That Accel kit Troyer has is a complete rip-off...I got the same kit from Summit for $60.

Same with the Troyer fans(which I have)

You can put together the same exact kit Troyer sells for under $150, plus Troyer doesn't have directions for Pre-97s so you have to do it on your own, I can guide you when the time comes, you can get the exact same controllers form Pepboys for about $30 each and Derale fans for $30-$60 if you shop around (E-Bay).

And the mounting kit that comes with Troyers SUCK, spend $5 and get some nylon zip mounts from Napa (they will probably come with th electric fans you buy)

Thanks for the replys, I opted for the MSD TFI ignition coil along with an Optima red top battery. I got them installed a couple of days ago and the truck runs great.
