Bad gas or transmission?

I have a 1995 F-150 Eddie Bauer edition with about 159,000 miles on it. Problem is when I am going down the highway , engine seems to stumble until I give it more gas. Not sure if its bad gas or the transmission is slipping. Got any ideas.

Torque converter can feel like that if it's going out, it will lock, unlock making the truck feel the way you describe. Put the truck in drive, 3rd gear and run it down the road and see if it does the same thing.

OK, thanks I will give that a try and see how it does. Does it make a difference for automatic transmission versus manual?

If it were bad gas, it'd be running pooly at all times I'd think.

The trans if auto would feel as if it were searching if it were going bad.

Does this happen only in OD or ???

My 1992 did it for quite a while and believe it or not my problem was resolved when my alternator went out. When i put the new one on i never had that issue again when i was gettin a dead battery by just sitting with the radio on for 30 mins or so or letting the door buzzer go for a few mins more than maybe i should.I had it tested and the alternator was putting out 50% of the voltage it should so they gave me a replacement (gotta love lifetime warranty) i changed it out and drove it 3 more years and never had that issue again.Maybe you should get your alternator checked worked for me

Well that almost assures me that it's the torque converter falling apart then. Well lockup clutch is slipping. Daaco makes good quality rebuilt converters at a good price. You could be out for as little as $500 w/ converter and install. Depends on where you go.

If you have the funds and already have that tranny out, I'd just go through it while it's out. It'd save you some headache down the road if you plan to keep the truck for a while. Since your converter is going poo-poo now's the time to get it built before...but that's if you are going to keep the truck.

Shoot me an email and I'll give you the list o' parts for a GOOD E4OD build up (I mean durable and strong) and where I get my quality parts for low cash...

My amp guage never got more than little over half way and that was running down the highway around 70mph.mine didnt die after it started it just didnt take much to run the battery down if it sat more than 2 days the clock alone would run it down so i took it in for testing (while it was on the truck)and thats when i discovered it wasnt putting out near enough voltage.but after they exchanged the alternator i never had a problem with the battery or the jerk again...

it doesnt take 5 mins to run it in for testing and was the best thing i ever did because it made me weary of making long trips without carrying a booster pack let me know how it goes..........

When I was driveing into work today the vibration/intermitten jerking was worse than ever and the guage was halfway between "L"and 18.

well I took my truck to murrays they checked my alternator and everything is ok but the battery is reading high so that explains the high amp readings. THe guy also said when I TOLD HIM MY PROBLEM THAT HIS 94' did the same thing and the tourqe converter was toast ! I gues Ill have to have a trans shop look at it again and they will probly tell me the same thing its in the tires.
Unless you guys have any other Ideas?
