Fuel mileage w/I-6, E40D

Hey guys whats the concensus on gas mileage with a 300 I-6 in a 96 F150 4 X 4 with an automatic. I'm struggling to get 15mpg combined driving. Any suggestions to improve the mileage? (other than pulling two plug wires). At this rate I'm going to need to strap a 55 gal tank in the bed just to make it through a work week and thats with dual tanks!!!

I use to get 15MPH on the highway. Lately I just get 11 or 12. Good luck. Make sure to do a search on the forums for other similar threads. I know I see em all over.

My 96 300/E4OD 2WD gave 19 highway/14 city with 3.08 gears. Since I switched to 3.73s I get 16 everywhere. I don't think you're going to do a whole lot better than you are with a 4WD

I have a 96 300/with 3.08 gears/4x2/E4OD and it gets about 15 mpg in mostly city driving. I only drive about ten miles to work everyday so the gas in the dual tanks lasts what seem to be three weeks.
