What Next?
2 years ago I got a great deal on a 95 F-150 Eddie Bauer with the 4.9l I6. (38,000 miles, very clean company truck). Looks like PKRWUD's truck just a little shorter...nice truck by the way...
I found this site shortly thereafter. Since then I have added, in order, a drop in K&N, a brass contact distributor cap, motorcraft plugs & wires, a Jet performance chip, and a Gibson SS exhaust. (The Gibson has been on for a week and I notice a pulsating drone at 70mph.) My question is..I have seen many posts saying the Superchip will give more of a performance gain (HP)...anyone gone from Jet to the Superchip? I tow my camper some weekends...most weekends I tow a hobbystock. I am one who will not stop adding performance mods until...well..never.

I doubt you'll notice any difference switching chips. I was impressed with the JET chip.
The single best mod I did to my truck, that made the biggest improvement overall, was installing my K&N FIPK. The drop in filter doesn't do anything for performance, but the FIPK does. Big time.
Trust me. I know your truck inside-out.
Take care,
~Chris

Ok ....I did a modification to my filter box...basically cut out the bottom and turned it upside down...It doesn't look pretty but I did notice a major increase in power...I also went and got champion truck plugs and side gapped them tonight... Did you change the timing? I saw in one of your previous posts you were talking about it, but didn't see how far away from the recommended setting you may have put it.. and the coil...how hot before you begin to burn the plugs, especially when you side gap.Or is this not a problem .Accel runs at 48KV and have seen others as hight as 53K... That is, if the wires can handle it Thanks!
I'd have to do some digging to find the coil stats, but I use a PS91, and it works great. I currently use Taylor wires, but used Accel 300+ race wires for years with no problem. My truck always ran best with the base timing between 14 and 16 degrees advanced (14 w/ the Jet chip, and 16 w/o). 16 degrees with the Jet chip made it run a little on the warm side.
Isn't it amazing how much power you picked up by modifying your air box? There's a steep grade here on highway 101 called the Conejo Grade, and I used to be in 4th, sometimes third, by the time I made it to the top. After the FIPK install, I could do the whole thing in 5th gear, unless I got stuck behind slow traffic. Now, I can do it in 5th with a loaded bed, never any slower than 70mph.

OK..it's been a while...have found a few problems with some of the mods I did....first...the damn thing began to buck pretty good at 45 in 4th gear....and cruising at 55-60 in 5th gear...put a restrictor plate on the egr...noticed an improvement..bucked just a little.....messed with the egr position sensor...worked for a few days...the pcm eventually adjusted itself for that and the problem came back.....made the hole in the restrictor a litttle smaller..worked a little better....less mpg..then read a post from pkrwud about the problem he had with his jet chip...I removed mine....The truck runs smoooooth....Like pkrwud I got 3 good years out of it....now I'll have to pony up for a new one...the difference is amazing...less responsive..I want the power back!
I am a true jet chip mod believer! and will do it again...

Crazy, isn't it? Hey, if you still have your receipt for the chip, JET will replace it for free. It has a lifetime guarantee. Unfortunately, I lost my receipt.

Hey I'm doing the Champion plus and taylor wires combo too (I scored a box of 20 of these plugs on ebay for like $5 lol) Truck has been running great, I side gapped the plugs using Chris's old how-to.
